Nollywood actor Jerry Williams has been indefinitely suspended by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) due to his prolonged involvement with illicit substances. The AGN’s National President, Ejezie Emeka-Rollas, disclosed that the guild had been monitoring Williams’ drug-related activities since December 2022. Although the suspension could have been enforced earlier, the guild initially gave Williams an opportunity to seek minor treatments in an attempt to rehabilitate himself. Unfortunately, he failed to comply with the agreed conditions.
Emeka-Rollas emphasized that Williams had become a significant risk not only to himself but also to other performers on set, as they could potentially be exposed to his harmful behavior. The AGN National President stated that Williams would remain suspended until he obtains a clean slate from recognized and appropriate institutions specializing in drug abuse cases.
The AGN President clarified that the association’s constitution strictly opposes the use of illicit drugs by its members. Moreover, the AGN upholds the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and maintains a strong partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). In 2022, the AGN collaborated with the NDLEA, which periodically conducted checks on AGN members involved in illicit drug use during filming locations.
