The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has announced plans to release a 3-part investigative documentary detailing the atrocities and sexual crimes committed by the founder of Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Pastor Temitope Balogun Joshua, popularly known as TB. Joshua.
A short trailer of the documentary titled ‘Disciples’ and released on Sunday features several victims of TB Joshua’s sexual exploitation narrating how they were manipulated and silenced by the church.
Survivors of TB Joshua’s sexual exploitation narrated how they were manipulated and silenced even when they knew the relationship they had with “daddy” was abusive.
The women who were part of TB Joshua’s disciples said the televangelist molested and raped them.
According to the BBC, TB Joshua told the women he was sexually assaulting them for their salvation. A woman identified as Abisola said she was in the church for 14 years and was raped throughout her stay. When the women get pregnant as a result of being raped many times, they were forced to get an abortion in a dingy clinic inside the synagogue.
The documentary also re-opens the controversy that trailed the collapse of the church guesthouse in September 2014, detailing from witness testimonies, how the church attempted to cover-up the structural lapses in the building.
It added that families of victims were offered cash compensation with a threat not to speak to the media.
The BBC said it found dismembered bodies of victims under the rubble, and dead bodies were transferred in SCOAN ambulances to shield the reality of the disaster from the press to protect both the image of the church and TB Joshua.
The BBC’s documentary revealed how the church staged managed and exaggerated miracles that were televised. People were told to exaggerate their problems so they could be healed, likewise, their healing so it could be “perfected by God”, a source who worked at the miracle department told the BBC.
Recall that TB Joshua died from an undisclosed illness on June 5, 2021. His wife, Evelyn, was named successor and leader of the church.
