The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has called on the management and students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), to embrace the use of the e-naira platform for their financial transactions.
Mr Samuel Giwa, the Acting Branch Controller of the CBN in Akure, made the appeal during an e-naira sensitisation programme at FUTA.
Giwa highlighted the safety, efficiency, and user-friendliness of the digital currency, emphasizing that transactions on the platform were free of charge.
He urged the university and businesses operating within it to adopt the e-naira platform for the collection of fees, levies, and revenues, stating that doing so would contribute to the economic growth of Nigeria.
Giwa described the e-naira as an opportunity to revolutionize the country’s financial landscape if embraced and used effectively.
The Acting Branch Controller noted that the CBN had selected students to serve as e-naira ambassadors, acting as agents of the bank to educate and engage with fellow students regarding the digital currency.
In response, Prof. Adenike Oladimeji, Vice Chancellor of FUTA, commended the initiative of the regulatory bank and expressed optimism that students would embrace the digital currency due to its efficiency, ease of use, and enhanced security.
The e-naira was launched on October 25, 2021, by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
