On Christmas day, at least eight residents of the NTV community near Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA) in Plateau State, Nigeria, fell victim to an attack. This incident occurred just 24 hours after reports of 16 people being killed in the neighboring Lisham Kwahasnat community, situated between the Mangu and Bokkos LGAs. The recent attacks have raised the death toll in the state to at least 24.
According to Captain Oya James, the spokesman for the military task force in the state, the attackers invaded the communities in large numbers, overpowering local security personnel. The assailants not only took lives but also set houses ablaze, creating a tense atmosphere as residents sought safety.
He said “There were loss of lives during the attack and troops had been deployed in the communities in the general areas.”
In response to the escalating violence, the state government has directed security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. The government also urged residents to embrace peace, emphasizing its commitment to addressing the security challenges in the region. The military has deployed troops to the affected communities to restore order and prevent further violence.
