An explosion occurred at the Zungeru Hydro Electric Dam in the early hours of Monday, damaging some of the dam’s installations and resulting in injuries to several workers.
Eyewitnesses reported to THISDAY that multiple workers were injured in the blast, including a foreign engineer who was seriously hurt. The injured engineer, believed to be a Chinese national, was rushed to Minna General Hospital with burns to his head and hands. Due to the severity of his condition, plans are underway to transfer him to the IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna for more comprehensive medical care.
The exact number of other workers injured remains unknown, but eyewitness accounts suggest that the number is significant. “They are many,” one witness stated.
The cause of the explosion has not been determined. The incident has caused a power outage in Minna, adding to the concerns.
