Hon. Nicholas Mutu, the lawmaker representing Patani/Bomadi Constituency in the House of Representatives, has organized a training program to empower over seventy constituents in fish farming. The initiative aligns with the federal government’s agenda of promoting food security in the country. The program, titled “Development of Fisheries and Aquaculture in South-South Geopolitical Zone,” featured professionals from the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology (FCFMT) in Lagos.
During the training, participants were educated on various aspects of fish farming, including breeding, growing fish to table size, and marketing the produce. Dr. Babatunde Musa, a resource person and senior lecturer at FCFMT, emphasized the importance of using the newly acquired skills to contribute to food security and improve their own livelihoods. He encouraged the beneficiaries to start implementing what they have learned and make a positive impact in their local economy.
The gesture by Hon. Nicholas Mutu was praised by former Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa on Community Development, Hon. Frank Sologidi, who expressed gratitude for the empowerment schemes. He highlighted the significance of such programs in uplifting the lives of the people at the grassroots level. Mr. Kenneth Ebitonmo, another indigene of Bomadi town, also commended the lawmaker for his continuous efforts to better the lives of his constituents.
The beneficiaries of the program, represented by Mr. Mark Egbebo and Mr. Eniye Perewarebo, expressed their gratitude to Hon. Nicholas Mutu for the opportunity and assured him that they would utilize the starter packs effectively.
