President Bola Tinubu has taken significant steps to alleviate the financial burden faced by students in Nigeria. He has approved the removal of all restrictions on student loans, making them more easily accessible for those in need. Additionally, in light of the recent fuel subsidy removal, the President has sanctioned the provision of buses to student bodies across all tertiary institutions in the country.
A statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, Dele Alake, conveyed President Tinubu’s concern for the welfare of students. He expressed his desire to ensure that students can access their campuses without facing excessive difficulties due to higher transportation costs.
Moreover, the provision of buses to student bodies will not only ease the financial strain on students but also relieve the additional burden of daily commuting costs for parents and guardians.
In line with his commitment to affordable education, President Tinubu has also directed authorities in all Federal Institutions of higher learning to refrain from arbitrary increases in sundry fees. Furthermore, where possible, he has urged them to defer any further fee increases. This measure is aimed at ensuring that parents and students do not face undue financial hardships.
These actions by President Tinubu demonstrate his dedication to improving access to education and easing the financial challenges faced by students and their families in Nigeria.
