The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has encouraged the Super Falcons to bring home the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. She delivered this charge during a dinner held in Abuja for the team ahead of their departure for the tournament, which is scheduled to take place from July 20 to August 20.
Representing Senator Tinubu at the event, Dr. Betta Edu, the APC National Women Leader, emphasized that Nigeria’s participation in the 9th FIFA Women’s World Cup should be aimed at securing the prestigious cup. She highlighted the unifying power of football in the country and urged the team to work together diligently to meet the expectations of Nigerians.
Dr. Edu stressed the importance of teamwork, stating that success can only be achieved when players collaborate and support each other. She expressed her optimism that the team would surpass their previous performances and called on them to give their best effort to bring the cup home.
The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, expressed her confidence in the team’s ability to excel at the tournament and promised to personally receive the team upon their return with the trophy. She assured them of the support and attention of Nigerians, stating that the nation will be eagerly watching their matches.
In his remarks, Alhaji Ibrahim Gashua, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), thanked the Federal Government for their support of the team. He emphasized the unifying and positive impact of football and encouraged the coaches to demonstrate utmost commitment as they will be held accountable for the team’s performance.
The dinner was attended by various dignitaries, including Mr. Philip Shuaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, top sports administrators, and members of the diplomatic corps.
