The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has taken disciplinary action against seven of its officials, with five being sacked for corruption, while two were reprimanded for being absent from duty posts without leave.
The decision was reached on Friday, December 8, 2023, during a meeting held at Oshodi, Lagos. According to Adebayo Taofiq, the spokesperson for LASTMA, the recommendations made by the Personnel Management Board during a meeting on August 19, 2023, were ratified by the Lagos State Civil Service Commission.
The Acting General Manager of LASTMA, Bakara Oki Olalekan, emphasized that the disciplinary actions were taken in accordance with the existing rules guided by the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations. He stated that the agency is committed to improving its operations and urged members of the public to share their experiences, both positive and negative, to contribute to the betterment of LASTMA.
Oki also revealed that cases against the remaining 14 indicted LASTMA officials are undergoing additional administrative review. The measures taken reflect the commitment to accountability and transparency within the organization as it strives to enhance its effectiveness in managing traffic in Lagos State.
