Flutterwave, Africa’s leading payments technology company, has introduced a new payment product called Tuition. This product aims to enable African users to conveniently pay various fees to educational institutions both within Africa and overseas, using their local currencies.
Tuition caters to a wide range of educational institutions, including high schools, universities, colleges, and select global edutech platforms. The primary goal of Tuition is to address the challenges associated with paying school fees for students studying abroad and at home, ensuring seamless transactions.
The new service allows students, parents, guardians, and sponsors to make school fee payments to over 40 institutions in the UK, with plans to expand to more institutions in Africa and beyond.
African payments to overseas schools have historically faced various obstacles, such as high transaction costs, limited access to banking services, lack of transparency, security concerns, and currency exchange rates. These challenges have made it difficult for Africans to ensure the timely and efficient disbursement of funds to financial institutions abroad.
Tuition leverages Flutterwave’s world-class payments technology solution to provide a more convenient, secure, and reliable means of making school fee payments. Parents, guardians, and sponsors can now make direct payments to learning institutions in the UK and easily track their transactions through the Tuition web app, monitoring payment status and transaction history.
Olugbenga “GB” Agboola, CEO of Flutterwave, expressed excitement about the launch of Tuition, stating that it supports the aspirations of African students at all levels who wish to study anywhere without concerns about meeting school fee payment deadlines. Agboola emphasized that Tuition offers a safer, reliable, and affordable solution for African students to pursue their dreams while seamlessly receiving financial support from parents, guardians, and sponsors.
Stella Elele, Product Manager of Tuition at Flutterwave, highlighted the company’s commitment to making payment challenges in Africa hassle-free. She expressed confidence that Tuition will be a game-changer for parents seeking to support their children’s education. Initially available in Nigeria for UK school fee payments, the product will be gradually introduced to other African countries in the coming months. Flutterwave plans to expand access to Tuition by including more schools in Africa, the UK, US, Canada, France, and Germany.
