Former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, facing corruption charges, has been granted bail in the sum of N10 billion by a Federal High Court in Abuja. The ruling, delivered by Justice James Omotosho, stipulates stringent conditions for the bail.
Justice Omotosho mandated that Mamman provide two sureties who must be owners of landed properties within the Federal Capital Territory valued at a minimum of N750 million each. Additionally, the sureties are required to present their three-year tax clearance certificates and depose to affidavits confirming their financial capabilities. Certified copies of recent bank statements and passport photographs were also mandated for Mamman and the sureties.
Alternatively, the court allowed for the submission of a bank guarantee or bond in the sum of N10 billion as an alternative to the landed properties requirement.
Furthermore, Mamman must surrender his international passport to the court registrar pending the verification of all bail conditions. Until all requirements are fulfilled, he will remain in prison custody.
The case against Mamman revolves around allegations of corruption and abuse of office during his tenure as Minister of Power under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for September 25, 2024.
This decision marks a significant legal development in the ongoing prosecution of high-profile corruption cases in Nigeria.
