Edemma Udoh, a former contractor to the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and NADECO activist, has called on the Federal Government to adequately fund the ministry to deliver impactful projects to the Niger Delta region. She emphasized the need for a total restructuring of the ministry and its agencies to fulfill their purpose in bringing about transformation and development in the region.
Udoh highlighted the challenges faced by the ministry, including owing contractors and the need for passionate and committed leaders from the Niger Delta. She also criticized the insincerity of some leaders, attributing the impoverishment of the Niger Delta people and degradation of their environment to this lack of commitment.
The NADECO activist mentioned a strategic project, a regional organized industrial park modeled after one in Turkey, which she was involved in and is owed for. The project was meant to be a Public Private Partnership (PPP) with the nine state governments in the Niger Delta as shareholders, but it faced challenges in securing funding and support.
Overall, Udoh stressed the importance of restructuring the ministry and empowering passionate leaders to bring about positive change and development in the Niger Delta region. She urged the government to fulfill its commitment to the region and address the challenges faced by the ministry and its projects.
