On Saturday, a market at Council Bus-Stop along Egbeda-Ikotun Road in Alimosho Local Government Area (LGA) of Lagos experienced a gas explosion, sparking panic among traders and customers. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties in the incident.
The explosion resulted in the destruction of seven lock-up shops and various goods, along with damage to some vehicles at a nearby mechanic workshop. Margaret Adeseye, the director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, confirmed the incident, attributing it to a gas cylinder leak at one of the shops, which quickly spread to others.
“Multiple agencies swiftly responded to the emergency, including Ejigbo and Isolo Fire Stations of @LagosRescue working in collaboration with LASEMA, LNSC and @NigerianPolice all actively engaged in managing the situation,” the statement said.
It added, “Preliminary investigations point to negligence during the refilling of a gas cylinder as the probable cause of the incident. Fortunately, there are no reported casualties.”
Emergency response teams swiftly addressed the situation, and the fire is now under control. Preliminary investigations suggest negligence during the refilling of a gas cylinder as the probable cause. Multiple agencies, including Ejigbo and Isolo Fire Stations, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC), and the Nigerian Police, collaborated to manage the emergency.
