Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has expressed his determination not to tolerate any sabotage against the re-awarded Andoni road construction project in the Andoni Local Government Area of the state. He made this clear during a meeting with Andoni stakeholders and Port Harcourt leaders.
The governor addressed the Andoni leaders, including the attorney general and justice commissioner, Zacchaeus Adangor, and expressed his displeasure at the lack of commitment from the previous contractors, Raffoul Nigeria Ltd, who were handling the project. Despite the government’s payment of 90% of the contractual terms, there was little progress on the project, leading to its revocation and re-award to a new contractor, Monier Construction Company (MCC).
Governor Fubara stated that 30% of the new contract sum has been paid to MCC, and he urged the people of Andoni to provide the necessary support to the new contractors to complete the project within the next twelve months. He emphasized that the successful completion of the project would contribute to the area’s economic development.
“About two years ago, the immediate past Governor of Rivers, Chief Nyesom Wike, held a meeting with Andoni leaders and the contractors to work out modalities of smooth implementation of the project. There was a contractual review, and the money was paid by the government,” he said.
“But, it is so unfortunate that there wasn’t any progress on the project by the contractors. It pains us as a government that a project paid for up to 90 per cent is re-awarded.”
