The Progressives Yoruba Youth Congress (PYYC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, urging him to publicly declare his stance on the matter and direct government institutions to act in accordance with the law.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Akintunde Adedeji, the president of PYYC, emphasized the need for Tinubu to play a role in resolving the political impasse in Rivers State. The group urged the former Lagos State governor to ensure that due process and legality are adhered to in addressing the crisis.
Adedeji also directed a message to the 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging them to seek proper legal representation and guidance. The group cautioned that the country would hold them accountable if their actions contribute to any crisis.
“We call on the 27 former Rivers State House of Assembly members to seek proper legal guidance on the choices available to them going forward since it appears they are not beneficiaries of sound legal counsel based on their past and ongoing actions,” Adedeji stated.
Expressing concern about potential breaches of peace arising from the political developments in Rivers State, the group emphasized the need for the defected lawmakers to act responsibly and within the confines of the law. They also highlighted the importance of Tinubu’s intervention to dispel any insinuations that a Yoruba president is involved in allegedly undermining Rivers State.
