An incident of clashes between operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun) and the Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS) caused anxiety among residents of Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, on Wednesday. The clash occurred in front of Amotekun’s head office in the Government House Annex building in the Oke-Fia area of Osogbo.
The gun duel between the operatives led to apprehension among residents, resulting in the closure of shops in the vicinity as people sought safety. The cause of the clash has not yet been determined, but journalists who visited the scene reported that the leadership of both agencies were engaged in a meeting inside the Amotekun head office.
Several patrol vans from the NIS were present at the premises, numbering four, while Amotekun corps members were also on the scene. Journalists attempting to speak with the operatives were denied access to the office where the meeting was taking place.
Further details about the clash and the nature of the disagreement between the two security agencies are currently unavailable.
