Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, will be showcasing her exceptional culinary skills in Lagos on Friday, July 14, as part of an initiative to raise funds for a widow. The event is organized by Joseph Edgar, known as The Duke of Shomolu, with the aim of supporting widows and empowering them to become self-reliant.
Joseph Edgar, CEO of Duke of Shomolu Productions, a theatrical play production company, revealed the details of the event to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday. Baci, who gained worldwide recognition and became a Guinness World Record holder for her culinary achievements, will demonstrate her mesmerizing skills during the event in order to raise one million naira for a widow in need.
This initiative has been running for the past three years and has successfully raised over ten million naira to support deserving widows. Instead of receiving traditional birthday gifts, close friends and associates of The Duke of Shomolu contribute cash donations. These donations are then given to nominated widows who have been identified by members of the public.
Last year, two million naira was donated to four deserving widows, while this year, three million naira was raised. The winner, nominated by Yemi Odusanya, a director at Keystone Bank who shares the same birthday as The Duke of Shomolu, received one million naira. In addition, Edgar personally selected ten other widows from nearly one hundred nominees to share the remaining one million naira.
The culinary event featuring Hilda Baci will take place at the Ivy Hotel in Emerald, Ikeja GRA, Lagos, and will cater to a group of ten individuals. The funds raised from the event will contribute to the ongoing efforts to support widows and promote their self-sufficiency.
