The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reiterated its commitment to prosecuting the former Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, for alleged N5 billion fraud. In a statement, the ICPC accused Ojerinde of using false names, aliases, and forged means of identification to perpetrate corrupt practices and evade justice.
The ICPC’s statement comes after a recent ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which ordered the ICPC to pay Ojerinde N1 million in damages over his re-arrest on the court premises in January. The court declared the re-arrest and continued detention of Ojerinde illegal, stating that it violated his right to personal liberty. The judge also ordered the ICPC to pay an additional N200,000 as the cost of instituting the lawsuit.
However, the ICPC has rejected the ruling and announced its intention to challenge it at the Court of Appeal. The commission argued that Ojerinde’s re-arrest was based on a warrant issued by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court.
The ICPC remains determined to pursue the prosecution of Ojerinde and hold him accountable for the alleged fraud. The commission’s decision to challenge the court ruling demonstrates its commitment to ensuring that justice is served and that individuals accused of corruption face the consequences of their actions.
