Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, has declared his position as a call to serve Nigerians and transform the country. He made this statement during a Thanksgiving Service at the 23rd Synod/Congress of Abuja Province of the African Church. Akpabio expressed his honor and humility to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in building the Nigeria of their collective dreams.
Akpabio emphasized the need for divine intervention and fervent prayers to address the challenges facing Nigeria. He also called on the church to play its rightful role in politics and serve as a moral compass and reorientation platform for the citizens. Akpabio stated that progress in religious, political, economic, social, and cultural aspects of Nigerian life will only be achieved when all stakeholders actively participate in nation-building.
He acknowledged the role of Christians as the light and salt of the world and urged them to engage in politics to drive progressive change. Akpabio assured that the Senate will seek greater collaboration with the church and the larger community. He thanked the congregation for the opportunity to join them at the Thanksgiving Service.
In his sermon, Archbishop Peter Ogunmuyiwa encouraged Christians to actively participate in politics to make a difference. He praised Akpabio’s emergence as Senate President, noting that it has eased religious tensions in the country. Ogunmuyiwa shared his personal encounter with President Tinubu, who promised to ensure a Christian emerged as Senate President. He expressed hope that under Akpabio’s leadership, the Senate will allocate resources where they are most needed. Ogunmuyiwa declared that Nigeria is experiencing a shift from “business as usual.”
