Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed his desire for the death of Russian President Vladimir Putin following a devastating hospital strike in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy made these remarks on Tuesday, ahead of a NATO summit in Washington, as he addressed the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has resulted in significant loss of life, including that of children.
“I’m the father, I’m the president, it’s so difficult to lose people. It’s so difficult to lose children. And of course, you know, you see these children are dying or dead, so you want to kill Putin at this moment. And of course, all of us, we want it very much,” Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy’s comments came in response to a recent attack on a hospital, which he claims was deliberately targeted by Russia.
“The missile was exactly to the hospital, it’s not the first time. Do you think that it was meant to strike the day?” he questioned.
As the conflict enters its 16th month, Zelenskyy is seeking increased support from NATO to alter the course of the war. He urged the alliance to provide more weapons, financial aid, and security guarantees to Ukraine.
Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson, an ally of former President Donald Trump, at the Capitol on Wednesday.
Ukraine’s ultimate goal is to join NATO to secure protection against future Russian attacks. Zelenskyy attended parts of the NATO summit as a guest, where he made his case for increased support and membership in the alliance.
