2Baba rose to stardom as a member of the group Plantashun Boiz in 1999. However, it was his solo debut album, “Face 2 Face,” released in 2004, that established him as a standout leader of the emerging generation. He continued his success with albums like “Grass 2 Grace” (2006) and “The Unstoppable” (2009), amassing an impressive collection of local and international accolades. Alongside his musical achievements, 2Baba made a pivotal commitment to serve humanity.

The 2Face Foundation

In 2008, 2Baba founded the 2Face Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting peace, unity, and socioeconomic development in Nigeria. The foundation’s focus areas encompass education, health, empowerment, relief intervention, democratic processes, peace-building, and advocacy for good governance. Over the years, the foundation’s impact has been truly awe-inspiring, mirroring 2Baba’s accomplishments in the music industry.

Musical Prowess and Humanitarian Work

While consistently releasing albums, such as “Away and Beyond” (2012), “The Ascension” (2014), and “Warriors” (2020), 2Baba has remained dedicated to his humanitarian endeavors. In 2009, he was appointed as an ambassador by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to raise awareness about the dangers of fake and sub-standard food and drug products in Nigeria. His commitment to social causes sets him apart, as he actively addresses critical issues and brings about positive change.

Commitment to Education and Climate Change Awareness

Recognizing the significance of education, 2Baba has donated books, provided scholarships, and supported educational institutions with necessary facilities and equipment. His philanthropic efforts also extend to raising awareness about climate change. He actively participates in environmental campaigns, initiatives, and emphasizes the importance of sustainable practices and conservation.

Electoral Participation and Peace Advocacy

2Baba’s work towards electoral participation in Nigeria has been extensive. He played a vital role in the “Vote Not Fight” initiative, collaborating on several sub-campaigns. In 2011, he launched the “A Million Voices for Peace” campaign, mobilizing Nigerians and promoting peaceful elections. During the 2015 Nigerian general elections, he joined forces with the Youngstars Foundation and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) for the “Vote Not Fight” campaign, which aimed to discourage electoral violence and foster peaceful participation in the electoral process.

Promoting Peace through Music and Advocacy

Through initiatives like the “One Voice Peace Concert” and numerous smaller events across Nigeria, 2Baba has consistently used his platform to encourage peaceful involvement in the nation’s governance. He released the theme song “Vote Not Fight (Election No Be War)” to inspire citizens and discourage electoral violence. His dedication to peaceful elections and increased youth participation has been evident in his work during off-season elections in various states.

Reflection on Achievements and Future Endeavors

In 2017, 2Baba expressed his commitment to

the “Vote Not Fight” campaign and emphasized the importance of peaceful, free, fair, and credible elections. He continued to advocate for peaceful elections and urged the youth to engage in politics actively. As the campaign progressed, it reached millions of Nigerians, reducing election-related violence and promoting peaceful participation.

Continued Humanitarian Efforts and Contributions

Beyond his political involvement, 2Baba has consistently supported Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and engaged in charitable initiatives. He collaborated with other artists on projects like “Help for Haiti” in 2010 and the “Flood With Love” campaign in 2013. In 2017, he organized the “2Baba and Friends” charity concert to raise funds for IDPs affected by the Boko Haram insurgency. He has also supported the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in their relief efforts for IDPs and refugees in Nigeria, becoming the first Nigerian Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR in 2020.

Recognition and Reflection

2Baba’s contributions have not gone unnoticed. In 2020, he was recognized as a Goodwill Ambassador by the UNHCR, solidifying his status as a dedicated advocate for the welfare of others. In a special breakfast chat with the media in June 2023, he expressed pride in the impact of the “Vote Not Fight” campaign, reaching 62 million Nigerians and involving 2,000 active youth volunteers across the country. Despite acknowledging the upsurge in election-related violence during the last general elections, he remained committed to working toward a better Nigeria and engaging in conversations with potential new partners for future endeavors.

Conclusion

Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has carved out a remarkable career as a musician, songwriter, and philanthropist. His commitment to empowering African youths, promoting peace, education, and good governance has been truly inspirational.
