The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has advised Nigerians to verify claims of excellent performance by candidates in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) before awarding scholarships. The caution was issued by the JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, during a virtual meeting with state commissioners of education.
In the JAMB Weekly Bulletin shared with journalists, Oloyede emphasized the importance of seeking clarifications from the Board to prevent fraudulent claims of excellence. The registrar cited the case of a 2023 UTME candidate, Ejikeme Mmesoma, who forged her result, falsely claiming to have scored 362 instead of the actual score of 249.
Oloyede pointed out a similar incident in Osun State, where a UTME candidate received undeserved rewards due to fraudulent claims of excellence in the 2023 UTME. He highlighted that such cases could be avoided if concerned parties contacted the Board to verify the true state of affairs.
Commending the state commissioners for their continuous support during the 2023 UTME, Oloyede solicited their cooperation for the upcoming 2024 examination. The caution comes as part of efforts to maintain the integrity of JAMB examination results and prevent fraudulent activities related to academic performance claims.
