The immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Bako Lalong, has been sworn in as the Senator representing Plateau South. The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, administered the oath of office to Lalong, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Lalong’s swearing-in follows his victory at the Court of Appeal, which declared him as the duly elected Senator for Plateau South Senatorial District. He replaces Senator Napoleon Binkap Bali, who was removed by the Appeal Court. Lalong tendered his resignation as Minister to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing his decision to take his seat in the Senate after extensive consultations with stakeholders and constituents.
The new Senator assured his constituents that he would not disappoint them, highlighting his previous experience as a member of the Plateau State House of Assembly and Speaker of the House. Lalong emphasized his commitment to contributing to the growth of democracy and supporting the Renewed Hope agenda of the government.
