During the funeral service of the late Dean of Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev Maxwell Anikwenwa, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the February 25 election, emphasized the need for leaders to lead by example in the country.
Speaking at St Faith’s Anglican Cathedral in Awka, Obi expressed that the behavior, character, and conduct of public officers must align with the expectations of society. He emphasized that leaders should be at the forefront of making sacrifices and addressing the suffering experienced by the people.
Obi praised the late Anikwenwa, describing him as not only a man of God but also a remarkable Nigerian who made significant contributions beyond his pastoral work. He acknowledged the late cleric’s advocacy for a better Nigeria and good governance.
Presiding over the ceremony, Most Rev Henry Ndukuba, the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, highlighted that Anikwenwa lived by the principles of the Anglican Church. Ndukuba emphasized that after fulfilling his earthly duties, the esteemed cleric had gone to rest.
In his tribute, Ndukuba referred to the late Anikwenwa as a patriot of the Anglican Church, who dedicated his life to serving God and his people.
The funeral service provided a platform for reflection on leadership and the legacy left behind by individuals like Most Rev Maxwell Anikwenwa, encouraging leaders to prioritize service to the nation and set an example for others to follow.
