According to The Sun, Manchester City has turned its attention to Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong after ending their pursuit of West Ham United’s Declan Rice. The 26-year-old Dutch midfielder has long been rumored to be considering a departure from Camp Nou, and Barcelona may need to offload him to address their financial difficulties.
De Jong, who rejected a €85 million move to Manchester United last year, is reportedly keen to stay at Barcelona. However, the club is open to selling him for a fee exceeding €100 million. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is a huge admirer of De Jong and had previously attempted to sign him in 2019.
Meanwhile, Rice is said to be closing in on a move to Arsenal, with the Gunners reportedly agreeing to a deal worth £100 million plus £5 million in add-ons. Minor details are said to be the only thing left to finalize in the deal.
