The sad news has been confirmed that the three medical students who went missing after their boat capsized during a cruise in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, have been found dead.
The Cross River State Police Commissioner, Gyogon Augustine Grimah, addressed the press on Monday in Calabar, where he confirmed the tragic outcome. Thirteen medical students from various Nigerian universities were involved in the boat accident.
The medical students had gathered in Calabar for the annual Nigeria Medical Students Association Health Week. During the event, the boat carrying them capsized, leading to a rescue operation. Fortunately, ten students were successfully rescued, but three remained missing near the Marina Resort.
Local residents discovered the bodies floating in the water on Monday morning and promptly informed the Marine Police. The bodies of two males and one female were recovered. However, their identities have not been disclosed by the police commissioner.
Grimah stated that the recovered bodies would be properly cared for, and efforts would be made to contact the relevant families before their handover. This tragic incident has cast a shadow over the medical community and serves as a somber reminder of the dangers associated with water-related activities.
