Fegalo Nsuke, President of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP), emphasized the need for unity among Ogoni people in response to concerns over their exclusion from the Niger Delta Stakeholders’ Summit 2024, organized by the NDDC.
Speaking in Port Harcourt, Nsuke addressed reports circulating about the absence of Ogoni ethnic representatives at the summit, stressing the importance of solidarity at a crucial time for the region. He highlighted the summit as a vital opportunity to garner support for development initiatives in the oil-rich ancient kingdom.
A statement released by Alex Akori, MOSOP’s Secretary-General, quoted Nsuke’s acknowledgment of the summit’s timing, noting the critical need for collective efforts to attract developmental progress to the Niger Delta. Nsuke expressed appreciation for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s prioritization of regional development issues.
Nsuke further emphasized the agricultural potential of Ogoniland, despite environmental challenges posed by oil pollution, advocating for transparency and accountability in NDDC operations to maximize impact in the region. He signaled MOSOP’s readiness to collaborate with NDDC’s current Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, particularly in agricultural investments aimed at enhancing food security not only in the Niger Delta but throughout Nigeria.
In closing, Nsuke called for renewed cooperation between Ogoni people and the NDDC, aiming to resolve past misunderstandings and focusing on shared goals, including infrastructural developments like the east/west road.
The statement reflects MOSOP’s commitment to advocating for Ogoni interests and fostering productive partnerships for regional advancement.
