The Office of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) announces a major breakthrough as Retired Maj.-Gen. Barry Ndiomu, the Interim Administrator, successfully stabilizes and revitalizes the program by implementing strategic financial models that have cleared all inherited debts.
In a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday by Mr. Freston Akpor, the PAP Special Assistant on Media, it was revealed that Ndiomu took charge in September amidst numerous challenges, including unpaid scholarship awards, incomplete vocational training centers, and other outstanding liabilities.
Recognizing the importance of media platforms in Nigeria to highlight the efforts of the PAP in transforming the socio-economic landscape of the Niger Delta region, Akpor emphasized that Ndiomu’s tenure has marked a significant turning point in the program’s operations.
Through astute financial planning, Ndiomu has successfully cleared all inherited debts by employing tactical financial models. This commendable achievement includes settling outstanding payments to critical contractors, agencies, and scholarship recipients.
Akpor further highlighted one of the strategic steps taken by Ndiomu, which involved reforming the PAP by addressing previously unresolved scholarship awards. Ndiomu swiftly implemented the necessary reforms, ensuring the payment of all fees for 1,700 PAP students across various tertiary institutions in the country. Additionally, an additional 55 delegates entering their first year in universities abroad have received financial support. These developments complement the 1,300 students who were already enrolled in tertiary institutions within Nigeria and overseas the previous year, resulting in a total of 3,000 students benefiting from the program.
The remarkable progress made under Ndiomu’s leadership demonstrates his commitment to sanitizing and reinvigorating the operations of the PAP, bringing renewed hope and opportunities to the Niger Delta region.
“So far, he (Ndiomu) has sanitised and stabilised the operations of the PAP,” media aide said.
“Ndiomu sanitised and adopted the process with payment of all fees of 1700 PAP students spread across tertiary institutions of learning across the country
“As well as additional 55 delegates going into their first year in various universities in different countries.
“This is in addition to 1300 students already deployed to various tertiary institutions within Nigeria and overseas in the previous year bringing the total number of students to 3000.
“These scholarships covering tuition and In-Training-Allowance (ITA) have been paid in full by the administration of Ndiomu for the 2022/2023 academic session,” Akpor said.
Akpor also reiterated efforts by the PAP to launch the Formal Education Trust Fund to boost the formal education scheme of the PAP.
