A multi-million-naira mansion in Victoria Garden City (VGC) Estate, Lekki, Lagos, used as a clandestine laboratory for the production of methamphetamine has been forfeited to the Federal Government by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The property belonged to a convicted drug baron, Okenwa Chris Nzewi. Nzewi, along with his associate Sunny Okeh Ukah, was arrested on July 30, 2022, and later convicted. The NDLEA filed a civil forfeiture charge against the building, leading to its final forfeiture on December 7, 2023.
In a separate development, a 75-year-old woman, Mrs. Sekinat Soremekun, was arrested in Lagos for allegedly dealing in illicit drugs. She claimed that her son supplied her with the substances. In Imo State, NDLEA operatives intercepted a consignment containing 2.287kg of cocaine concealed in cellophane condoms. In Nasarawa State, over 100kg of cannabis was recovered from the ceiling of a dealer’s house. At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, over 1.5 million pills of tramadol 225mg and Rohypnol were intercepted in a cargo going to South Africa. In Abuja, a consignment of 1,496 bottles of codeine syrup was seized, and a suspect was arrested.
These operations highlight the NDLEA’s efforts to combat drug trafficking and production in various parts of the country.
