The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered a series of sophisticated drug trafficking attempts involving narcotics concealed in carton walls, body cream containers, and winter jackets at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, NDLEA seizes drugs hidden in carton walls creams Lagos airport.

The operation, which led to multiple arrests and seizures, highlights a growing trend in which traffickers deploy increasingly creative concealment methods to evade detection. The latest bust reinforces the agency’s ongoing crackdown on international drug syndicates operating through Nigeria’s busiest airport.

The NDLEA seizes drugs hidden in carton walls, creams at Lagos airport in what officials describe as a major disruption of export routes used by traffickers targeting Europe and other international destinations, NDLEA seizes drugs hidden in carton walls creams Lagos airport,

According to the agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, the intercepted consignments were destined for countries including Italy and New Zealand, indicating the global reach of the trafficking networks involved.

One of the suspects, 37-year-old Friday Ehianuka, was arrested on March 20 while attempting to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Rome. A search of his luggage revealed 2,698 pills of tramadol 225mg hidden inside containers of skin-lightening body cream. Investigators said the suspect admitted he was promised payment in euros upon successful delivery of the drugs, NDLEA seizes drugs hidden in carton walls creams Lagos airport.

In another case, NDLEA operatives intercepted a second passenger, Christian Agbonhese, at the departure hall while preparing to board a Lufthansa flight to Milan. Officers discovered 28,470 pills of opioids concealed inside two large winter jackets. The seized substances included tramadol and tapentadol, both of which are widely abused and tightly regulated.

The NDLEA seizes drugs hidden in carton walls, creams at Lagos airport also extended beyond passenger luggage. At a Lagos-based courier facility, officials intercepted parcels containing one kilogram of “Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis shipped from the United States. Another consignment of methamphetamine, weighing 158 grams, was discovered hidden within the walls of a carton destined for New Zealand.

Authorities say these concealment strategies reflect a shift in trafficking tactics, with syndicates increasingly relying on everyday consumer goods to bypass airport security checks. By embedding narcotics in creams, clothing, and packaging materials, traffickers aim to blend illegal substances with legitimate cargo.

The NDLEA seizes drugs hidden in carton walls, creams at Lagos airport as part of a broader nationwide enforcement effort. Across Nigeria, the agency reported major seizures in states including Kano, Kaduna, Edo, Oyo, and the Federal Capital Territory.

In Kano, operatives arrested suspects with a combined 198 kilograms of cannabis, while in Lagos, over 21,000 bottles of codeine-based syrup were recovered during a raid in the Ijora area. Additional arrests were made on the Third Mainland Bridge, where suspects were caught transporting thousands of bottles of the substance.

Further operations in Abuja led to the interception of a commercial bus carrying more than 91,000 tramadol pills concealed within hidden compartments. Similar recoveries were recorded in Kaduna, where over 586,000 opioid pills were seized along a major highway, NDLEA seizes drugs hidden in carton walls creams Lagos airport.

The scale of these seizures underscores the persistence of drug trafficking networks and the challenges faced by enforcement agencies. The NDLEA, established to combat drug production, trafficking, and abuse, continues to play a central role in disrupting these networks across Nigeria’s borders and transport hubs.

For authorities, the significance of the latest operation goes beyond the quantities seized. It signals an evolving battle between law enforcement and increasingly adaptive trafficking syndicates. Each new concealment method represents an attempt to exploit gaps in detection systems.

The NDLEA seizes drugs hidden in carton walls, creams at Lagos airport at a time when the agency is intensifying both enforcement and public awareness campaigns. Officials say alongside seizures, efforts are being expanded under the War Against Drug Abuse initiative to educate communities about the dangers of drug use and trafficking.

Chairman of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (retd.), commended officers involved in the operations and urged sustained vigilance. The agency, he said, remains committed to a balanced strategy combining enforcement, prevention, and rehabilitation, NDLEA seizes drugs hidden in carton walls creams Lagos airport.

Security analysts note that Nigeria’s position as a transit hub makes it a key target for international drug syndicates. As such, sustained intelligence-led operations will be critical in staying ahead of traffickers who continue to refine their methods.

The NDLEA seizes drugs hidden in carton walls, creams at Lagos airport not just as an isolated incident, but as part of a wider pattern that reflects both the scale of the drug trade and the determination of authorities to counter it.

For now, the message from the agency is clear: no concealment method is beyond detection, and no trafficking route is immune from scrutiny.
