The National Examination Council (NECO) has introduced the “NECO e-Verify” platform, aiming to streamline result verification processes and prevent the manipulation and falsification of examination results. The platform was officially unveiled during a ceremony held in Abuja on Thursday.
Prof. Dantani Wushishi, the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO, highlighted the challenges faced by the council in processing result verification requests, which were previously routed through its headquarters in Minna, leading to delays. To address these issues, the “NECO e-Verify” platform was developed as an online solution that ensures instant authentication of academic and basic information about prospective candidates for admission and employment.
Prof. Wushishi emphasized the increasing demand for result verification from both domestic and international institutions. According to NECO’s records, between 2020 and 2022, 64 institutions from 37 countries and 72 institutions within Nigeria requested verification and confirmation of results. Additionally, numerous individual requests were received during the same period.
Result verification plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy of academic credentials. Academic institutions and employers rely on this process to select the most qualified candidates for admission and employment. By verifying the authenticity of candidates’ results, institutions and employers can have greater confidence in their decision-making, ensuring that individuals possess the necessary qualifications for further studies and specific job requirements.
The “NECO e-Verify” platform offers several benefits, including increased confidence, reduced risk, and improved efficiency. Its implementation is expected to provide relief to millions of students, educational institutions, and other stakeholders. Furthermore, the platform holds the potential to generate income that will strengthen NECO’s financial position.
Dr. Akon Eyakenyi, the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom and Chairperson of the ceremony, expressed her delight at being part of the historical launch of the NECO e-Verify platform. She emphasized that beyond simplifying the process for candidates, the platform would contribute to the financial stability of NECO by creating new revenue streams.
With the introduction of the “NECO e-Verify” platform, NECO aims to enhance the credibility of its examination results while streamlining the verification process for educational institutions, employers, and other relevant agencies.
