The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has issued a warning that heavy rainfall may result in flooding in 31 communities across 14 states in Nigeria from July 4 to 8. In a statement signed by Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, Territorial Coordinator of NEMA’s Lagos Territorial Office, relevant stakeholders in the affected states have been urged to take precautionary measures to prevent loss of lives and property.
The states and communities identified in the statement are as follows:
- Plateau: Langtang and Shendam
- Kano: Sumaila and Tudun wada
- Sokoto: Shagari, Goronyo, and Silame
- Delta: Okwe
- Kaduna: Kachia
- Akwa Ibom: Upenekang
- Adamawa: Mubi, Demsa, Song, Mayo-Belwa, Jimeta, and Yola
- Katsina: Katsina, Jibia, Kaita, and Bindawa
- Kebbi: Wara, Yelwa, and Gwandu
- Zamfara: Shinkafi and Gummi
- Borno: Briyel
- Jigawa: Gwaram
- Kwara: Jebba
- Niger: Mashegu and Kontagora
Mr. Farinloye expressed gratitude to the Flood Early Warning System (FEWS) Central Hub of the Federal Ministry of Environment in Abuja for sharing the information. It is important for residents and authorities in the identified communities to take necessary precautions to minimize the potential impact of the expected heavy rainfall and prevent any loss of lives and property.
