Stakeholders from various organizations and communities have expressed their support for President Bola Tinubu’s decision to retain Samuel Ogbuku as the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), along with two executive directors, following the dissolution of the commission’s board. The Movement for Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality (MOSIEND), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) conveyed their endorsement during a news conference held in Uyo.
The stakeholders emphasized that the Ogbuku-led administration should be allowed to continue the commendable work it had initiated for the benefit of the region and the entire nation. They regarded the retention of the NDDC leadership as crucial for the peace, progress, and development of the Niger Delta region.
President Tinubu had announced the dissolution of the boards of all federal government parastatals, agencies, and institutions on June 19, stating that the decision was made in good faith. However, the stakeholders expressed relief that the managing director and the executive directors were retained to manage the commission until a new board is constituted.
The stakeholders highlighted that their focus is now on the peace and progress of the region rather than engaging in power struggles for positions and appointments. They assured Mr. Ogbuku and his team of their unwavering support and commitment, vowing not to succumb to any form of blackmail or intimidation.
The endorsement by these diverse stakeholders reflects their confidence in the leadership and vision of the NDDC management and their determination to work together for the development of the Niger Delta region.
