In response to the alleged corruption and conflicting judgments within the judiciary, youths from the Niger Delta region staged a peaceful protest, expressing their discontent with the state of the justice system. The protest comes in the wake of growing political crises in some parts of the country, notably Rivers State, attributed to conflicting court orders.
The protesters voiced their concerns about the detrimental impact of such judicial inconsistencies on the overall stability of the nation. They highlighted the need for urgent attention to address these issues before they escalate further, emphasizing that the trust and hope once associated with the judiciary are diminishing.
Brian Kroma Sagbe, one of the protest’s conveners, stated that the objective was to draw attention to the weariness among Nigerians regarding the perceived irregularities and conflicting judgments within the judiciary. The protesters displayed placards with messages such as “Say no to corruption,” “Give the common man hope,” “Protect the people’s mandate,” and “Believe Nigeria would work.”
The demonstrators called on all Nigerians to unite in raising awareness about the increasing levels of corruption and compromise within the justice system. They stressed that the judiciary, once considered the last hope of the common man, is now facing challenges that erode public trust.
As part of their call to action, the protesters urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the situation before it escalates further, signaling a plea for swift and effective measures to restore confidence in the judicial system.
