The Chairman of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Asue Ighodalo, has tendered his resignation from the board of the company, as announced by the company on Friday. Ighodalo submitted his resignation on Thursday, December 7, 2023, and it is set to take effect on December 31, 2023.
In a statement, Nigerian Breweries disclosed that Ighodalo informed the board of his decision to offer himself for public service, leading to his resignation. This step will allow him to dedicate his full attention to this new commitment.
The company said, “The Chairman informed the board today of his decision to offer himself for public service. As a result, he will be resigning from the board and as the chairman of the board on the 31st of December 2023 to enable him to devote his full attention to the new cause.”
To facilitate the smooth transition and ensure the appointment of a substantive chairman, the company has appointed the longest-serving Director, Mr. Sijbe Hiemstra, to act as the chairman on an interim basis, effective January 1, 2024.
Asue Ighodalo had joined the board on January 1, 2022, and subsequently assumed the position of non-executive chairman on May 1, 2023.
Additionally, the company announced the resignation of Independent Non-Executive Director, Mrs. Ndidi O. Nwuneli, whose departure follows the completion of her 9-year tenure on the company’s board. Mrs. Stella Ojekwe-Onyejeli has been appointed as her replacement, and she will assume the new role on January 1, 2024.
