The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) issued a statement on Wednesday, clarifying that a video circulating on social media showing a pipeline leakage is three years old and should not be taken seriously.
According to the Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Garba Deen Muhammad, the company’s pipeline team promptly responded to the video when it came to their attention. Upon reaching the location, they discovered that no such incident had occurred.
Further investigation into the video revealed that it actually took place in July 2020 near the Atlas Cove-Mosimi on the System 2B pipeline. Notably, this pipeline has not been operational in 2023 and currently contains only water.
The NNPC Ltd. urged the general public, particularly communities in the Aboru area of Lagos State, to disregard the old video, as it does not reflect any recent events or pose any current risks.
