NSCDC deploys 4,000 personnel for FCT area council poll, assuring residents of adequate security and peaceful elections.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, has deployed 4,000 personnel across Abuja to provide security for the forthcoming Area Council elections, reinforcing efforts to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.

The deployment was confirmed by the FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Olusola Odumosu, who spoke in Abuja while receiving delegates from the National Peace Committee ahead of the elections.

According to him, NSCDC deploys 4,000 personnel for FCT area council poll as part of a coordinated security strategy designed to safeguard voters, electoral officials, and election materials before, during, and after the exercise.

Odumosu assured residents that the corps was fully prepared to prevent disruptions and protect the democratic process.

The commandant disclosed that the deployed officers had undergone proper training in election security procedures, including specialised briefings conducted in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He explained that the training equipped NSCDC officers with the necessary knowledge to handle election-related security duties professionally.

Odumosu said NSCDC deploys 4,000 personnel for FCT area council poll to ensure that voters can exercise their democratic rights without fear of intimidation, harassment, or violence.

He added that the corps has also deployed officers to critical locations, including polling units, collation centres, and other sensitive electoral infrastructure across the Federal Capital Territory.

Assurance of protection for voters and electoral officials

The NSCDC commandant emphasised the corps’ commitment to protecting voters, electoral officials, and election materials throughout the electoral process.

He assured residents that security personnel would act swiftly to prevent any attempt to disrupt the elections.

Odumosu said NSCDC deploys 4,000 personnel for FCT area council poll to ensure adequate protection against criminal elements, including hoodlums and individuals who may attempt to interfere with the electoral process.

He urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and report any suspicious activities to authorities.

Collaboration with other security agencies

Election security in Nigeria typically involves coordination among multiple agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC, Department of State Services (DSS), and other security institutions.

Odumosu explained that NSCDC personnel would work closely with other agencies to ensure comprehensive security coverage across the Federal Capital Territory.

He said the inter-agency collaboration would help prevent security breaches and ensure a smooth electoral process.

As part of this effort, NSCDC deploys 4,000 personnel for FCT area council poll alongside other security agencies participating in the election security framework.

Role of the National Peace Committee

The National Peace Committee, which visited the NSCDC command, plays a key role in promoting peaceful elections and encouraging political stakeholders to adhere to democratic principles.

The committee has been actively engaging security agencies, political parties, and electoral authorities to ensure peaceful conduct during elections.

Odumosu reaffirmed NSCDC’s commitment to supporting peaceful elections and maintaining public confidence in the electoral process.

He said NSCDC deploys 4,000 personnel for FCT area council poll as part of the corps’ constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property.

Importance of security in local government elections

Area Council elections are critical components of Nigeria’s democratic system, determining leadership at the grassroots level.

Security is essential to ensure that voters can participate freely and that election results reflect the will of the people.

Security agencies play a vital role in preventing electoral violence, protecting election infrastructure, and maintaining order during voting.

Odumosu said NSCDC deploys 4,000 personnel for FCT area council poll to strengthen security arrangements and prevent any disruption.

Ensuring peaceful and credible elections

The NSCDC commandant emphasised that the corps remains committed to professionalism and neutrality during election duties.

He urged officers to conduct themselves in accordance with the law and respect the rights of citizens.

He also called on residents to participate peacefully in the election and avoid actions that could undermine the democratic process.

With the deployment already in place, NSCDC deploys 4,000 personnel for FCT area council poll as part of broader efforts to ensure a peaceful, secure, and credible election in the Federal Capital Territory.

What residents should expect

Residents of the FCT can expect increased security presence across polling units and election-related locations.

The NSCDC said its officers would remain on duty throughout the election period to maintain law and order.

The deployment reflects the agency’s readiness to respond to any security challenges that may arise.

For now, NSCDC deploys 4,000 personnel for FCT area council poll, reinforcing confidence in the security arrangements ahead of the elections.
