In a move to bolster technological innovation and collaboration, the Ondo State Government has approved the establishment of a tech hub at Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa. The approval, granted by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, was announced by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on ICT, Hon. Tomide Akinribido, during an official visit to the university’s Vice-Chancellor on Monday.
Hon. Akinribido revealed that the governor’s decision was aimed at creating a platform for students to exchange ideas, share knowledge, and form sustainable partnerships. He emphasized that the tech hub would be equipped with modern gadgets and devices to facilitate the cross-pollination of creative ideas, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, and foster a culture of open innovation within the university community.
Expressing his enthusiasm, the Vice-Chancellor of OAUSTECH, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, commended the governor’s commitment to the university’s growth. He assured that the university management would maintain the tech hub facility upon its completion and expressed hope that the project would be delivered promptly, allowing students to benefit from the hub when they resume the new academic session in October.
Following the announcement, Prof. Ologunorisa, accompanied by the University Registrar, Mr. Peter Okunniga, led Hon. Akinribido and his team on an inspection of the building designated for the tech hub at the Faculty of Engineering, Igbodigo. The SSA on ICT was accompanied by officials from the State Information Technology Agency (SITA), including the Director of Engineering and IT, Mr. Wole Adeyemi, Director of Software Development, Mr. Austin Taiwo, and Director of Planning, Mr. Omotuke.
The tech hub initiative is expected to significantly enhance the learning environment at OAUSTECH and drive technological advancement in the region.
