The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that its main focus is on the Presidential Election Tribunal, where the party is challenging the outcome of the 2023 presidential election. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Debo Ologunagba, emphasized that the party will function as an opposition party until the court judgment is delivered.
In an interview with Daily Interview, Ologunagba addressed speculations about the party’s failure to discipline erring members who have caused damage to the party. He explained that the party is following due processes and awaiting the outcome of the court case.
Ologunagba mentioned a previous instance when Senator Pius Ayim and others were suspended, but the action resulted in further complications for the party. He clarified that the party’s cautious approach does not mean it condones such behavior. The party is strategically focusing on the tribunal and will take action consistent with its constitution once the tribunal process is concluded.
The spokesperson emphasized that the party does not act on impulse but follows a methodical approach. He stressed the importance of maintaining democracy, upholding the rule of law, and avoiding distractions from the main objective. Ologunagba assured that the party remains strong and committed as the National Working Committee (NWC).
He also noted that media focus on court cases can divert attention from the party’s core objectives. Ologunagba reiterated that once the tribunal process is completed, the party will address other issues in a systematic manner.
