Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, has disputed President Bola Tinubu’s claim that the removal of fuel subsidy saved the country N1 trillion. Speaking to journalists during an ongoing protest, Ajaero stated that the committee he is working with, headed by Gbajabiamila and with the president’s special adviser Paul Nnaji as the secretary, reported that no money was saved. He also mentioned that the director of the budget confirmed that no amount was saved.
Ajaero emphasized the lack of transparency from both sides, making it difficult to determine the truth. He criticized Tinubu’s lament about stolen wealth while having access to the state’s apparatus. Additionally, Ajaero expressed concern about the preference for Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) over the availability of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Nigeria, which, according to him, benefits a cabal at the expense of the people.
Regarding the ongoing protest and strike, Ajaero mentioned that the NLC has not decided on the duration but stated that the option to continue the protest remains open.
Ajaero said, “The committee we are working with said it’s a lot, the committee is headed by Gbajabiamila, and the secretary of the committee is the special adviser to the president Paul Nnaji, said no money was saved.
“The director budget said no kobo was saved, and the president said he has saved N1trn, so who do we believe?
“So, if there is no transparency from both sides, then no money will be given to us or anyone, this is the kind of conflict we are currently having, so who is lying?”
