Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has begun the distribution of cheques to provide insurance benefits to the next-of-kin of officers who lost their lives or suffered permanent disabilities while carrying out their lawful duties. A total of N535 million worth of cheques were presented to 68 families of deceased officers and those injured or disabled in the line of duty, as part of the Group Life Assurance 2022/2023 Policy Year.
The Nigeria Police spokesperson, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the Inspector General emphasized the value of human life and the priority placed on the well-being of police officers. He assured that the leadership of the police force would fulfill its obligation to provide comprehensive welfare support and insurance benefits to all personnel who have made sacrifices for the nation.
Additionally, the Inspector General received a contribution of N70 million from Anchor Insurance Company Limited. This financial support will be used to rebuild the Kano State Command headquarters, which was extensively damaged by a fire incident on January 14, 2023. The funds will help restore the command’s infrastructure, enhance operational capabilities, and ensure effective policing services to the residents of Kano State.
Expressing deep gratitude to the dedicated officers of the Nigeria Police, the Inspector General acknowledged their resilience, commitment, and unwavering allegiance in upholding justice and security. He recognized that their loss and injuries create an irreplaceable void but emphasized that their legacies will continue to be cherished by those they touched.
