The priest who was abducted in Ebonyi State on Monday has been rescued by the police, according to authorities. Reverend Father Joseph Azubuike, who serves at Saint Charles Parish in Mgbaleze Isu, Onicha local government area, was abducted alongside three others but has now been released unharmed.
The spokesperson for the Ebonyi Police Command, Superintendent Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the priest’s safe release, stating that he was rescued at around 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Onovwakpoyeya also mentioned that a manhunt is underway to apprehend the perpetrators who escaped during the rescue operation. Reverend Father Azubuike is currently receiving medical checks at a hospital.
The abduction occurred near the priest’s parish while he was returning from pastoral duties, as stated by the Abakiliki Diocese. The diocese added that the abductors have made financial demands, but they remain hopeful for the unconditional release of all those who were kidnapped.
With the successful rescue operation, the authorities are working diligently to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of the community.
