In a Christmas Broadcast on Monday morning, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, expressed his commitment to implementing the eight-point presidential peace agreement aimed at resolving the political crisis in the state. Governor Fubara assured that the agreement would be implemented in a manner that does not compromise the collective interest of the people and democratic values.
Acknowledging his role as a principal participant in the saga, Governor Fubara stated that, after studying the terms of the proclamation, he concluded that the peace pact is not as detrimental as it might be portrayed by those opposed to it. He emphasized that the peace accord is not a death sentence but an opportunity to achieve much-needed stability in the state.
Governor Fubara noted that both sides of the political divide have demonstrated goodwill towards the implementation of the agreement. The Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule has withdrawn the purported impeachment notice, and the state government has released the withheld allowance of the State House of Assembly.
The governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for intervening in the political crisis, highlighting the president’s love for Rivers State. He also thanked the people for their support during the crisis, promising not to lower the bar of governance and to consult widely for the betterment of the state.
In the spirit of Christmas, Governor Fubara encouraged citizens to embrace the virtues of Jesus Christ, emphasizing selflessness, genuine love, and true forgiveness. Looking ahead to 2024, he assured that the new year would witness improved development with the planned completion of strategic infrastructure projects, including a section of the Ring Road Project and the Andoni section of the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro unity road, which had been abandoned for over 20 years.
