In a gesture of appreciation for the dedicated service of public servants in Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved a wage award of N35,000 for December. Additionally, political appointees and public servants will receive a 50% bonus of their basic salary as an end-of-year reward.
The announcement was made in a circular titled ‘2023 End of Year Bonus and Implementation of Wage Awards’ by Bode Agoro, the Head of Service for Lagos State. The circular conveyed the governor’s gratitude for the contributions of public servants towards the advancement of the state and emphasized the administration’s commitment to the welfare of its workforce.
The circular read, “As part of the present administration’s continuous appreciation of the contributions of all public servants towards the advancement of the state and its unrelenting commitment to the welfare of its workforce, it is hereby notified for general information that Mr. Governor has graciously approved the payment of 50% of the basic salary as an end-of-year bonus for all political appointees and public servants.”
The governor also approved the implementation of the wage award (palliative) pending the review of the national minimum wage. The circular specified that the 50% end-of-year bonus and the wage award (palliative) would be paid alongside the December 2023 salary.
The circular encouraged public servants to continue upholding excellence in their service delivery in alignment with the administration’s THEMES+ Agenda. It further directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to implement the salary increase in the December payments to workers.
This move by Governor Sanwo-Olu reflects the administration’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding the efforts of public servants, providing them with a positive end to the year and encouraging continued dedication to public service in the state.
