Members of the National Assembly have collectively donated the sum of N109 million to the victims of the recent bombing incident in Kaduna State. The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, made this announcement during a visit to the Kaduna Government House along with a delegation of Senate members.
This donation follows a similar gesture from the Northern Senators who presented N58 million to Governor Uba Sani the day before. The tragic incident occurred when an airstrike, intended for terrorists in Tudun Biri, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, mistakenly hit civilians, resulting in the reported death of at least 85 individuals and numerous injuries.
The incident has raised concerns about the proficiency of the Nigerian Army in executing successful air operations and coordinating intelligence gathering in the fight against insurgents. Stakeholders, security experts, and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) are calling for compensation for the victims and an independent investigation to determine the reasons for the failed airstrikes by the military. Over the past eight years, more than 300 civilians, including children, have reportedly lost their lives due to unsuccessful air operations by the Nigerian Army and Nigeria Air Force.
