Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has stated that his performance during his four-year tenure should not be judged based on the number of visitors he receives at the government house. The governor emphasized that he wants to focus on the work he was elected to do and urged politicians in the state to refrain from frequent visits that distract him from important matters.
In a video posted on Facebook, Governor Eno expressed his appeal to the elites and stakeholders in the state. He explained that while he had initially opened his doors to receive as many people as possible to demonstrate goodwill, the continuous flow of visitors was hindering his ability to handle important files and attend to urgent state matters.
Governor Eno made it clear that he will limit visitor receptions to Thursdays and Fridays, dedicating the other days of the week to focusing on his responsibilities. He stressed the importance of allowing him time to perform his duties effectively, stating that at the end of his tenure, people would not assess his performance based on the number of visitors he received but rather on the tangible accomplishments he achieved.
He urged understanding from the public, noting that managing files and addressing matters promptly was crucial to delivering on his promises to the people of Akwa Ibom. Governor Eno emphasized the need to shift the focus from visitor counts to the substantial work being done for the betterment of the state.
“I like to please appeal to us the elites, since we resumed, we have tried to open our doors to receive as many people as we can and that was to show goodwill,” the governor said in a video posted on Facebook.
“As I leave here, I’m going to the office, if I get to the office now, I will only receive visitors on Thursdays and Fridays. I beg us.
“Between Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, I will not receive visitors to allow me time to do the job that you have elected me to do because no one would ask how many visitors I received at the end of four years. They will ask what we did.
“Allow us to hold the meeting we can hold, treat some files. You know we are almost treating files late and I have tried to manage it for some time, but people would get angry.
“Some people will say we just elected you, he is locking us out. That is not the issue. Let’s try and understand.”
