Kola Ologbondiyan, the former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has criticized the involvement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, denouncing the declarations made as unconstitutional. Ologbondiyan expressed his concerns on social media, emphasizing that such matters should be addressed within the framework of Nigeria’s constitution. He highlighted perceived violations in the recent declarations regarding the crisis in Rivers State, stating that they infringe upon the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended).
Ologbondiyan specifically pointed out the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in conducting elections to fill vacant seats in the Rivers House of Assembly, emphasizing the need to adhere to constitutional provisions. He cautioned against influential political figures compromising the country’s democratic principles, warning of the potential erosion of constitutional norms.
In his statement on social media, Ologbondiyan said, ”The Asiwaju Declarations on Rivers State are unconstitutional and a wholesome abuse of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
”The law is that INEC holds elections in the vacant seats of the Rivers House of Assembly in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
‘President Tinubu, as a major beneficiary of our constitutional democracy, must not be allowed to turn our nation into a banana republic where anything goes.”
