Ayo Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, has expressed no regrets for actively working against the presidential ambition of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar in the lead-up to the February 25 election. Defending his actions, Fayose stated that he was unafraid of being expelled from the party for engaging in anti-party activities.
During an appearance on ‘Politics Today’ on Channels Television, Fayose reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, stating that he believed in and subscribed to the party and had no intention of defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), even after the victory of President Bola Tinubu.
Fayose acknowledged his admiration for President Tinubu, whom he considers the new leader of the Yoruba race. He emphasized that he had consistently celebrated Tinubu’s birthday through newspaper advertisements during his tenure as Ekiti governor, and he commended Tinubu for his instrumental role in President Buhari’s rise to power.
The former governor highlighted the importance of remaining upright leaders beyond party politics and stressed the need for Nigerian politicians to prioritize the unity of the country. He also stated that he would not be upset if he were expelled from the PDP, as he believes his sacrifice for Nigeria’s unity will be appreciated someday.
Fayose openly admitted to working against Atiku’s presidential bid and emphasized that Nigeria’s interests should transcend party affiliations. While expressing his love for the PDP, he asserted that he did not work for the party during the last election and maintained that he is not a liar or a pretender.
