Delta federal poly matriculates 637 students as the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun in Delta State formally admitted hundreds of new students into its National Diploma programmes during the institution’s third matriculation ceremony, marking another milestone in the development of the relatively young federal institution.

The ceremony, held at the Senator Remi Tinubu Lecture Theatre within the polytechnic campus, officially inducted 637 newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session. The event drew students, parents, academic staff and other stakeholders who gathered to witness the formal admission of the new intakes into the academic community of the institution.

The ceremony also served as a moment for the institution’s leadership to outline its vision for technical education and emphasise discipline, integrity and skill development. It is within this context that Delta federal poly matriculates 637 students becomes more than a simple academic ritual—it reflects the continuing growth of technical and vocational education institutions in Nigeria.

Rector urges discipline and innovation

In his address at the ceremony, the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Orogun, Dr. Duke Okoro, urged the newly admitted students to pursue academic excellence while maintaining high moral standards throughout their time at the institution.

Okoro, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Rector, Efetobor Elijah, emphasised that the matriculation ceremony was a significant step in the academic journey of the students and a key moment in the institution’s development.

He told the students that admission into the institution was both a privilege and a responsibility, stressing that the polytechnic places strong emphasis not only on academic performance but also on character development.

According to him, Delta federal poly matriculates 637 students at a time when the institution is steadily gaining recognition in Nigeria’s technical and vocational education sector.

He noted that education should go beyond obtaining certificates, encouraging the students to develop entrepreneurial and practical skills that would help them become productive members of society.

Admission breakdown of the new students

The 637 students admitted into the institution are drawn from different parts of Nigeria and reflect a mix of full-time and part-time enrolments.

According to the rector’s address, the admitted students include:
• 501 full-time students
• 136 part-time students

The breakdown illustrates the institution’s growing capacity and the increasing demand for technical education in Nigeria.

The management explained that Delta federal poly matriculates 637 students as part of its ongoing effort to expand access to practical and technology-driven education that aligns with national development goals.

Officials also said the rising number of admissions demonstrates growing confidence among parents and prospective students in the institution’s academic direction and leadership.

Institution expanding academic programmes

Beyond the matriculation figures, the event also highlighted the rapid expansion of the Federal Polytechnic Orogun since its establishment.

The rector revealed that the institution has grown significantly in terms of academic offerings. From an initial three academic programmes, the polytechnic now runs 19 programmes approved by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) across four academic schools.

This expansion reflects deliberate efforts by the institution’s management to position the polytechnic as a centre for technical innovation, digital literacy, and industry-relevant skills.

Okoro explained that the institution’s strategic focus is on producing graduates equipped with practical skills that can contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic development.

In his words, Delta federal poly matriculates 637 students at a time when the polytechnic is transitioning from a newly established institution into a growing hub for vocational and technological training.

Warning against cultism and examination malpractice

While congratulating the new students, the rector also delivered a stern warning against social vices that could jeopardise their academic future.

He cautioned the students against engaging in activities such as:
• cultism
• examination malpractice
• cybercrime
• drug abuse and other misconduct

According to the management, the institution maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward any behaviour that undermines academic integrity and campus safety.

The rector warned that involvement in cultism and other illegal activities often leads to academic failure and legal consequences.

He urged the students to focus instead on their studies and use the opportunities provided by the polytechnic to develop skills that would enable them succeed in the modern labour market.

Stakeholders praise institution’s progress

Parents and guardians who attended the ceremony commended the management of the Federal Polytechnic Orogun for the rapid development of the institution.

Many of them expressed satisfaction with the pace of infrastructure development, academic expansion and administrative reforms implemented since the polytechnic began operations.

They also expressed hope that the institution would continue to strengthen its reputation as a centre of excellence for technical and vocational education.

Their comments reinforce the broader significance of the headline Delta federal poly matriculates 637 students, which signals increasing public trust in the institution’s educational vision.

The role of technical education in national development

The matriculation ceremony also underscores the broader importance of polytechnic education in Nigeria’s development agenda.

Technical and vocational institutions such as the Federal Polytechnic Orogun play a crucial role in training professionals in fields including engineering technology, business studies, computing and industrial innovation.

Experts often argue that strengthening technical education is essential to improving employability, boosting industrial productivity and reducing the country’s dependence on theoretical academic pathways.

In this context, Delta federal poly matriculates 637 students represents not just an institutional milestone but also part of a wider national effort to build a workforce equipped with practical and entrepreneurial skills.

A milestone in the institution’s growth

For the Federal Polytechnic Orogun, the third matriculation ceremony marks another chapter in its development journey.

The event symbolises both the aspirations of the new students and the institution’s expanding role in Nigeria’s education landscape.

As the polytechnic continues to grow in programmes, facilities and enrolment, management officials say they remain committed to building a modern institution that combines academic excellence with practical skill development.

Ultimately, the ceremony sends a clear message: Delta federal poly matriculates 637 students, and with that induction, the institution continues to position itself as an emerging centre for technical education and innovation in Delta State and beyond.
