FRSC dismisses 43 officers

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has dismissed 43 officers from its service over offences ranging from desertion to scandalous conduct and patrol-related misconduct, in what the agency described as a decisive move to strengthen discipline and professionalism.

The action was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, who said the decision followed internal disciplinary processes and investigations into the conduct of the affected personnel.

According to the statement, the FRSC dismisses 43 officers after finding them guilty of various forms of misconduct considered incompatible with the values and operational standards of the corps.

A breakdown of the disciplinary action showed that 31 officers were dismissed for desertion, five were dismissed for scandalous behaviour, while seven were disengaged for patrol-related misconduct.

The corps described desertion as one of the most serious breaches of service regulations, noting that abandoning duty without authorisation undermines operational effectiveness and public safety.

“The affected officers comprise 31 dismissed for desertion, five for scandalous behaviour, and seven for patrol-related misconduct,” the statement said.

The announcement that FRSC dismisses 43 officers signals the agency’s determination to maintain strict adherence to its code of conduct and reinforce accountability among its personnel.

Ogungbemide said the disciplinary action was part of broader reforms aimed at ensuring that only personnel who demonstrate professionalism, integrity and commitment remain in the service.

He explained that misconduct by law enforcement personnel erodes public trust and compromises the ability of the corps to carry out its mandate effectively.

The FRSC dismisses 43 officers at a time when the agency is intensifying efforts to improve road safety enforcement, enhance service delivery and reduce road traffic crashes across Nigeria.

Officials said the disciplinary measures were taken in accordance with established procedures, which include investigation, documentation of evidence and review by appropriate disciplinary authorities.

The corps emphasised that disciplinary enforcement is essential to maintaining operational discipline and protecting the reputation of the organisation.

The FRSC dismisses 43 officers as part of its zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct, particularly offences that could endanger public safety or damage institutional credibility.

The corps said patrol misconduct, which accounted for seven of the dismissals, involved actions inconsistent with patrol protocols and operational guidelines.

Although specific details of individual cases were not disclosed, officials noted that patrol misconduct can include negligence, unauthorised conduct during duty and actions that compromise enforcement integrity.

Similarly, scandalous conduct, which led to the dismissal of five officers, refers to behaviour deemed unethical or inappropriate for uniformed personnel.

The FRSC dismisses 43 officers to send a clear message that violations of service rules will attract serious consequences.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and warned that it would continue to monitor personnel conduct closely.

Public safety analysts say such disciplinary actions are necessary to ensure that law enforcement agencies maintain high standards of accountability and public confidence.

They note that misconduct within enforcement agencies can weaken institutional effectiveness and reduce public cooperation.

The FRSC, established to promote road safety, enforce traffic regulations and reduce accidents, relies heavily on the discipline and professionalism of its personnel.

Officials say ensuring that personnel adhere to service standards is critical to achieving the agency’s objectives.

The FRSC dismisses 43 officers as part of ongoing institutional reforms aimed at strengthening internal accountability and improving service quality.

The corps also urged its remaining personnel to remain committed to their duties and uphold the values of discipline, integrity and professionalism.

It said disciplinary actions should serve as a deterrent and reinforce the importance of ethical conduct.

Observers say the move could help restore public confidence in the agency by demonstrating its willingness to address internal misconduct transparently.

The FRSC dismisses 43 officers in what officials describe as an important step toward building a more disciplined and effective organisation.

The corps reiterated that it would continue to enforce its disciplinary framework to ensure that only qualified and committed personnel remain in service.

As enforcement responsibilities expand and expectations grow, officials say maintaining discipline will remain a top priority.

For the FRSC, the decision to dismiss the officers reflects a broader effort to strengthen institutional credibility and ensure that its personnel meet the highest professional standards.
